Spring Crime and Mystery Classes
I've got a great set of classes coming up this spring that I think a lot of you will find interesting. The first is online, through Stanford. You can take this no matter where you are! The second is through City College San Francisco, on the ground, so you have to be here in the Bay Area.
Crafting Successful Crime Fiction: How to Write the Action (Stanford Online Course)
Interested in taking your crime or mystery manuscript (story or novel) to the next level? In this ten-week course through Stanford’s Online Writer’s Workshop you’ll learn improved techniques of writing action, dialogue, voice, and point of view. Get valuable feedback on your writing from a dedicated and organized set of fellow writers! Students will also have the chance to publicize their work by putting a story up at CrimeWAV!
Open to adult writers (over 18) of all levels and locations. Can be taken for college credit, graded or ungraded.

Detective Fiction, Eng. 48B (City College of San Francisco)
In this class, we'll be reading an array of the major American crime/mystery writers of the 20th Century, including Hammett, Chandler, Thompson, Highsmith, Crumley, Block, Abbott and talking about their work. We will also view excerpts from crime/detective movies and TV shows such as Double Indemnity, Grifters, The Wire, Dexter and others. Notable San Francisco crime authors will join us to talk about their favorite books. Class meets Thursday nights 7-10pm at City College's Ocean Campus, 50 Phelan Ave., SF, CA. Creative Arts Building Rm 314 (Bart: Balboa) Cost: $60.
