Hey Miki, Glad you brought this up. I dunno what'll come of more stuff like this. WHile I definitely don't anticipate going full bore into it, I think a little something like this might come up again (I can put a warning at the start of said episode if it does). But if it happens, I'll probably keep it short and sweet like I did here. So, short answer: probably not much more of this kind of gore, for a little while anyway. And yes, Akakievich is out of the way.
dood the gore is good, the gore is fine, the gore works to keep the story up. the shit u did to hopkins was a lil bit freaky but u are even better than sigler when torture is the question, i forced my friends and my boss to listen to it. they loved it. id say keep it coming. the bit with freeman in the hotel room, nice. you have a gr8 way of getting your bloody needs on to the page.
2 things wrong with that.
1. Sir? dood im 19, im still a kid. calling me sir makes me feel old :(
2. Thank you? You give 3 JP books The LWFD shorts and the Junius Short (and working on making it a novel) for free, and thank me? other way round dood. You don't need to thank your listeners. Your listeners need to thank you.
OK. Back to the torture. Now I've heard from two people that the violence/pain in JP3 was too much. What do others think? I'm starting to realize that when these crime geeks talk about the difference between "hard-boiled" and "noir" that they might be talking about the difference between JWU/JP2 and JP3. Perhaps JP3 went noir into the dark side.Fuck "Annie." Anyone else fear for Luke's ass over there?
The torture made me squirm, as it should. These are some sick fuckers, and they do sick fucking things. I expect it listening to something like this.
Besides, you're nowhere near as bad as some of the crime novels I've read in the past. I remember reading Harlan Ellison when I was younger, and he was going on about gang fights and taking razor blade studded potatoes and mashing them in someone's face.
Okay, the gun and teeth thing was about that rough, but it fit the story.
My opinion? Long as it fits the story, it can get as sick as it needs to.
For the first time in my adult life I almost wretched at a literary description, when I heard what Alexi had done to Mills' lips. I was good clear up to that. And in all honesty it took that shit to a new level in my book. Jack had just, and I mean within days, wrapped his head around the fact that he was now a killer... well as much as a washed up actor turned vigilante can. All of it, by my taste, was exactly appropriate in a David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino kinda way.
I must admit the amount of gore in JP3 was more then I had anticipated based on the earlier stories. It might have been due to a desire to give everyone a reality check as to how cruel the world truly can be (it is a cold world after all) or simply Seth spending too much time with Sigler. In any event, for me it added to the story.
Fret not, Seth is a fine writer and will always focus more on the story and characters rather then any kind of gore or shock value.
FUCK JD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real men drink Wild Turkey!!!!!!!!
I don't think it was too bad, and it was certainly realistic. It was necissisary to match the supposed brutality that Akakivitch (however you spell it) embodied. It came as a suprise though and was the most potentially disturbing bit of writing Seth has shared with us. It even reminded me a little bit of 24
Special prize to whoever can tell me where this comes from:
Yeah, torture motherfucker, torture.
I'll fucking, I'll fucking tie you to a fucking bedpost with your ass-cheeks spread out and shit, right? Put a hanger on a fucking stove and let that shit sit there for like a half hour, take it off and stick it in your ass slow-like--
Tsssssssssssss...
I'll fucking sew your asshole closed and keep feeding you, and feeding you, and feeding you, and feeding you...
Funny. This reminds me of the time I ruptured my achilles tendon and had to have major surgery to repair it. But it turns out the anesthetic they give you for surgery like this is a real constipator, I mean it stops you up COLD. So I had this one week before Thanksgiving, on the Friday before Thanksgiving I had my surgery. Then, come the big Turkey Day, I still hadn't pooped. Ouch! But with all the great smells in the house (I was staying at my father's house during it all) I couldn't resist having a few plates of turkey-Thanksgiving goodness. And then... after that...
Let me just say it like this: I had to keep my foot over my heart or else the blood flowing into it make it hurt like you couldn't believe (thing pressing up against the tight cast), which made sitting on the toilet REALLY hard, AND it wasn't until late Friday afternoon that I finally was able to get some movement. You talk about fulled up! I think I gained 10 pounds like that!
(Sorry if this is too much info.)

I just wanted to comment on a recent episode.
I had a lot of trouble with the torture scene. This is totally not personal, i'm a fan of Chandler, but not of the darker noire stuff, like John D. Macdonald. And maybe this is something Seth wants to explore, and that's fine.
Thankfully the scene was reasonably short and didn't cross too many episodes. But I kind of wondered whether I should expect more, because, well, Alexi is dead right, is it something we should expect to see revisited?
