Seth's mentioned some of his favourite crime shows, but one I'm not sure Seth's seen yet (and, man, he totally should! :) is "Life", on NBC. It had a great first season last year, and I just watched part of the season 2 opener and ... damn. It's even better. In that season 2 opener, the cinematography is movie-quality, and the writing is beautiful. :) It's smart and funny, and if you like the samurai code aspect of "Ghost Dog", you'll find some wonderful zen thoughts woven into "Life". I thought I really liked "Life" in season 1. Just 10 minutes into season 2, I bloody LOVE this show. So, the question is, what do *you* think Seth should be watching (and the rest of us, too!)?

I think.....
Seth should be watching whatever he thinks he should be watching. I do want to die but only in the story! HeeHee! To early to be rocking the boat. I have to get to the next level first. But, I'm soing to watch "Life" and see what it is all about!!!!

Might surprise a few folks
I'm not that big a crime fan... I just like Seths work (and some of the stuff over on Crimewave) I don't really have the time to get into crime dramas... I have enough stuff with football going on right now

hmm...
Does 24 count? That's more anti-crime, but it is some of the most badass shit on TV! I can't wait for the TV movie this fall and its return in January!

I've been watching 24 since
I've been watching 24 since almost the beginning (I think I watched s1 on DVD while recording s2 and then watched s2 once I was done), and I think it's had its ups and downs. I haven't given up on it yet, but I think there's quite a few shows doing more interesting/innovative stuff out there now. 24 /was/ really innovative when it began, but it feels like they ran out of really new ideas a few seasons ago. Obviously I still enjoy it enough or I wouldn't keep watching, though. On an aside, at Cheesecake Factory (at least, the one in Oakridge Mall in San Jose, CA), they have the Cisco VOIP phones with the same ring as in 24, and when we're there, we are always amused by that. "Damnit, Jack needs his cheesecake NOW!"

Yeah!
Whoa, weird... that's exactly what I did! Weird how time passes, I remember specifically that I used videotapes and not TiVo. I stopped last season, I think after episode 16, when it looked like everything was resolved, only for them to pull something else out of nowhere (even more so than your usual "no, actually someone else was controlling THOSE bad guys" continuation). That said, I'm still going to make sure to catch up in time for that TV movie that comes out soon. At this point, it's mindless fun with no real point to it, but I like it that way.

I don't recall for certain,
I don't recall for certain, but I think I may well have been using VHS for the purpose also, not a TiVo, at that point. Oy. That's a pain, making sure to record episodes of a show properly, not missing any, and NOT watching it because the DVD of the prior season hasn't yet come out. I am *so* glad that I have a TiVo now (ok, I'm on my third TiVo; I just keep upgrading! TiVo s2 => TiVo s2 DT => TiVo HD. =) It makes not watching/keeping up with something but nonetheless making sure to record and store it infinitely easier. It kind of sucks that I paid over $300 for the 1Tb disk I put in the HD back in Jan/Feb and 1Tb disks are now more like $100, but I don't really regret it too much since I've had use of it for the past N months.

Yeah
Yeah, TiVo is sweet. I don't have a personal one, and at home we only have one on the TV my mom uses, but we do have one at my fraternity (actually a different brand DVR) here on campus. But I'm pretty sure I'm definitely going to need one once I get a place of my own after college. As for 24, don't they usually get the DVD's of the previous season out before the next? As I understand it, DVD popularity is what kept 24 going in season 2. Who knows, though. I own, if I recall correctly, seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5. Haven't bought 6 yet, and I still have the complete tapes of season 3! I may grab those two next time Best Buy has all the seasons on sale for $20. No way I'm dropping down $45 each for those guys.

It used to be that shows came
It used to be that shows came out on DVD weeks or months /after/ the next season started back up on TV. 24 season 2, I am fairly certain started back up before season 1 came out on DVD. Everything did back then. Within a year or so after that, though, a lot of shows were coming out on DVD weeks or months /before/ the next season started up. 24 certainly made use of that by putting the future air date of the upcoming season premiere on a label on the front of the DVD box set for the prior season. I tend to check www.dvdpricesearch.com whenever I'm considering buying a DVD (or, well, soon it'll be Blu-ray; I've really rather stopped buying DVDs--hopefully that site will cover Blu-ray). Good resource for figuring out if it's available cheaper than what you're looking at.

Sweet website!
Hey, thanks for the link! I was able to spot that Buy.com is selling Angel, the complete series, for $70! (yeah, I'm a nerd) As for the 24 thing, I'm pretty sure I've read that DVD popularity led to its huge numbers in season 2, but I could be wrong.

I know what you mean. I don't
I know what you mean. I don't really read a lot of crime/noir at all either, other than Seth's stuff. While there are genres I am particularly partial to, really, when it comes down to it, I'm a fan of good stories regardless of genre.

Dexter is great. My wife and
Dexter is great. My wife and I watch it on DVD from Netflix. I've, believe it or not, never watched The Sopranos to this day. I should some day, but so much stuff I want to do and so little time. The Wire, I love. My wife hates. Oh well. I watch it when she's not around. Again, through the wonders of Netflix. Yay Netflix. Go Netflix. Go signups-for-Netflix-through-sethharwood.com. ;)

Another show that premiered with The Closer
You know, I didn't watch The Closer, but I did watch Wanted, a show that premiered with The Closer on TNT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanted_(TV_series) It was about an elite task force pulled from various crime enforcement agencies to track down the list of 100 greatest criminals in LA, and it was pretty sweet! Too bad it only lasted a season.

Life
I have really enjoyed what I have seen of it so far, but I had to move in the middle of season 1. Now, I believe that they are going to start showing season one here, in Germany, in a few weeks. It will give me a chance to get all caught up.

Did you see...
...the opening of the latest Life? I'd always suspected that Reese was hot under all that conservative detective garb. Suspicion confirmed! You know Seth watches Dexter, which is also one of my personal favorites. Anyone ever watch Prime Suspect? I just finished the series via Netflix. Pretty good and highly acclaimed.

Life is definately one of my
Life is definately one of my faves. Espicially since Crews, if you replace his work of detective for journalist, and give him a coat, fedora, and faceless mask, is basically one of my fave superheroes, The Question. Dexter, I've been wanting to check out for a while now. I don't get Showtime, and I know that CBS will, ironically, spay and neuter the shit out of it. Another good one to watch for me is Law & Order: SVU.

The Shield
I can't believe no one mentioned The Shield. The series just finished up and I'm planning to watch the whole thing over on DVD. A tremendously good show. As far as current shows, I'm eagerly awaiting the new season of The Closer. Going back to DVD I think Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, Homicide: Life on the Street, and The Wire are must sees for crime fans.

If Seth or any of you haven't
If Seth or any of you haven't been watching 'Leverage' then you guys need to jump on the ball for that one. If you like Ocean 11 then you'll like Leverage. Great cast and just fun plots of bad guys trying to out wit other bad guys for a good cause. Just a fun hour of television in my opinion. Hurdy gur, Freakopedia

Everyone seems to be about
Everyone seems to be about the NEW crime shows so far, I'm gonna be the odd man out. I recently collected all the Columbo DVDs out there. Digging the hell out of those.

Dude Columbo was the bomb!!! Peter Falk was great in that performance. If we want to go old school we got to go with Kojack, Rockford Files and last but not least Quincy M.E. Yeah I'm dating myself. Hurdy gur, Freakopedia

Seth should watch what Seth
Seth should watch what Seth wants to watch. That being said, here's a few of the crime shows I make (or made) a point of seeing. The Sopranos Dexter The Wire NYPD Blue Hill Street Blues And a bunch of true life crime shows: Gangland Forensics Files Cold Case Files The FBI Files I'm really not a crime buff per se, but my wife wrote a crime novel and started to watch the reality stuff just to learn more and it really is pretty interesting. You notice that these are all on premium channels. I tend to stay away from mainstream TV. In general it's just way too lame - kinda geared for the unthinking masses.

Not many
I don't watch too much in the line of "crime" tv shows. Closest i get is NCIS and Law and Order SVU. Started getting into CSI Miami a year or so ago, but got bored with it and tired of the characters.
