I'm all for this music idea. Yeah, send whatever you make/like. What was I listening to back then? Eric B and Rakim, early De La Sol, Public Enemy, Run DMC. The landscape was pretty thin back then. Though I just downloaded Straight Outa Compton (1988). YJ is taking place in 1987.But any music you guys make that's inspired by YJ I am definitely down for.
Ok, admittedly my wife does not like rap as a whole, but likes the occasionally upbeat song... recently though she got two songs mixed up and I couldn't help but laugh at her as they were as far apart as you can get in rap.
She said she wanted to listen to Straight Outta Compton and what she really wanted was California Love.
Needless to say, she does not like NWA.
Here's my run at a song list for the soundtrack:
Cracked Out - Masters of Ceremony
Paul Revere - Beastie Boys
Lyrical King - T La Rock
Dedication to all B-Boys - Schoolly D
Proud to be Black - Run D.M.C.
Rock You - Kool Moe Dee
I ain't no joke - Eric B. and Rakim (Seth is obviously down with EB&R)
9mm Goes Bang - Boogie Down Productions
Squeeze the Trigger - Ice T
and, to keep the Public Enemy tip live - Megablast
Yeah, I dig this list. Forgot to put BDP back into the mix for the late 80s. Basically of who was around then, I was digging PE, Run DMC, early De La Soul, BDP, and... yeah, I got into Ice T back then. What was the song I really liked... ? More on that soon.
Watching Rap City with Fab Five Freddy! Yeah. What else? For BDP, I have to go with My Philosophy! Definitely!
Would definately be interested in hearing some fan work--always willing to check out some new music--so I love this idea. The only thing I can see would be a problem is using other bits from signed artists. I would imagine that the record companies of those guys would come at Seth with Samurai swords or something.

Please consider making a sound track available for YJ. Half of it could be hip hop from the timeline of the story and the other half can be submitted by your listeners that do hip hop, their interpritations of YJ. I would contribute and I'm sure others would too.
